Choosing Between Shifting and Non-Shifting Hajj Packages

Every Hajj package sold in India is built around one decision: where you stay during the days in Makkah, and whether you move hotels partway through. The vocabulary is not obvious from the outside, so here it is plainly.

Non-shifting

You check into one hotel and stay there for the whole Makkah portion. The hotel is close to the Haram, the price is higher, and you never pack a bag mid-trip.

This suits elderly pilgrims, families with young children, and anyone for whom a long daily walk in Dhul Hijjah heat is the difference between praying in the Haram and praying in the hotel room.

Shifting

You spend the first portion in a hotel further out and shift closer to the Haram for the days around Hajj itself — or the reverse, depending on the group. It costs meaningfully less. The trade-off is one hotel change and, for part of the stay, a shuttle rather than a walk.

Aziziya

Aziziya is a district roughly 4–6 km from the Haram, and packages named "Aziziya non-shifting" put you there for the whole stay. It is the most economical option, and it is genuinely comfortable — but plan on the shuttle for every prayer you want to attend in the Haram.

Short tour and long tour

Separate from where you sleep is how long you stay. A short tour runs roughly 12–20 nights; a long tour 36–40. The long tour usually includes an extended Madinah stay before or after the Hajj days.

• First-time pilgrims with limited leave: short tour.
• Pilgrims who want the eight-day Madinah stay unhurried: long tour.
• Anyone travelling with a parent over seventy: consider a long tour with non-shifting, and build in rest days.

What none of this changes

The Mina and Arafat days are the same for everyone. Tent placement is set by Maktab allocation, not by the tier of your package, and no operator can promise otherwise. Ask any agent who claims they can exactly which Maktab number they are guaranteeing, in writing.

How to decide

Rank three things in order — budget, walking distance, and length of stay — and the package chooses itself. Most people who regret their choice ranked budget first and discovered in Makkah that distance mattered more.
